Hot chocolate

Yule Calendar Day 6: Peppermint Hot Chocolate

This Yule potion wraps you in winter’s embrace like a gentle spell. A swirl of rich chocolate carries the refreshing whisper of peppermint, as if forest spirits had breathed life into your cup.
If peppermint isn’t your charm of choice, replace it with cinnamon, and the drink transforms into a fiery protection spell, warming your heart and spirit.
Craft it with any milk you desire; oat, almond, dairy or your own blend and each sip becomes a ritual, summoning light, joy and wonder into the darkest nights of winter.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups oat milk, almond milk or dairy milk of choice

  • 3 tbsp cocoa powder (unsweetened)

  • 2 tbsp sugar or sweetener of choice

  • 1/4 tsp peppermint extract (or replace with a pinch of cinnamon for a non-minty version)

  • 1/4 tsp vanilla extract (optional)

  • Whipped cream or marshmallows for topping (optional)

Instructions

  1. Heat the milk: In a small saucepan, warm your milk over medium heat until hot but not boiling.

  2. Add cocoa and sweetener: Whisk in the cocoa powder and sugar until fully dissolved and smooth.

  3. Flavor it up: Stir in the peppermint extract for a refreshing twist. If you prefer a spiced version, replace the peppermint with a pinch of cinnamon.

  4. Serve and enjoy: Pour the hot chocolate into a mug, top with whipped cream or marshmallows and sprinkle a little extra cocoa powder or crushed candy cane for garnish if you’d like.

Variations

  • Classic Cinnamon Hot Chocolate: Skip the peppermint and add 1/4 tsp cinnamon for a warm, cozy flavor.

  • Spiced Orange: Add a small drop of orange extract instead of peppermint for a citrusy twist that pairs beautifully with chocolate.

This Yule hot chocolate is easy to customize and perfect for sipping by the fire during the winter season!
