Some things are hard to say out loud. Some things are even harder to let go of. But autumn has a way of reminding us: everything falls eventually. And maybe that’s okay.
This ritual isn’t fancy. You don’t need candles or crystals or perfect words. Just a leaf. And a moment.
If You Want the Wind to Take It
Pick a dry leaf. Write on it what’s been weighing you down, a thought, a fear, a name, a version of yourself you’re ready to release.
Stand outside. Hold the leaf up. Let the wind find it.
Say something like:
“I don’t need this anymore. Take it. I trust the change.”
Let it go.
If You Need Fire to Burn It Away
Write your truth on the leaf, the thing you’re done carrying.
Place it in a fire-safe dish. Light it. Watch it curl and blacken.
Say:
“I release this through flame. Let it become something else.”
Feel the heat. Let it sting if it needs to. You’re allowed to feel it before you let it go.
🔥 Safety note: Always burn outdoors or in a well-ventilated space. Use fire-safe tools and never leave flames unattended.
If You Want Moving Water to Wash It Clean
Write what you’re ready to release on a fallen leaf.
Find flowing water, a stream, river, or the sea. Let the current do the work.
Gently place the leaf into the water and say:
“I surrender this to the flow. Let it soften, let it dissolve, let it move on.”
Watch it drift. Let it be carried. Let it go where you no longer need to follow.
Healing doesn’t always happen quickly, but movement helps.
If You Want the Earth to Hold It for You
Write it down. Dig a little hole. Bury the leaf.
Say:
“I return this to the ground. Let it become something wiser.”
Cover it gently. Let it rest.
